Introduction:

Ventilator-associated events (VAE) represent a significant risk to patients who are ventilated. Based on the new Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) definitions for VAE, approximately 23 percent of mechanically ventilated patients suffer from ventilator-associated conditions including 9.3 percent with ventilator-associated pneumonia.

The Johns Hopkins University Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality (Al) and the Michigan Health & Hospital Association (MHA) Keystone Center have partnered and seek your participation in a national initiative to improve outcomes for ventilated patients.
