Optimizing Pediatric Nursing Care through a Global Collaboration
Paula Dycus, DNP, RN, CPHQ, NEA-BC                                    paula.dycus@lebonheur.org
Administrative Director of Professional Practice & Research - Le Bonheur Children's Hospital

The purpose of this presentation is to describe how Le Bonheur Children's Hospital partnered with the Department of Ministry, In-service Education in Kingsport, Jamaica, to improve the quality and safety of nursing care provided to children in Jamaican hospitals. One of our roles as healthcare leaders is to mentor others and disseminate knowledge regarding best practices for safe, quality care. Nursing education programs in Jamaica provide minimal education and clinical experience in pediatrics. Several years ago, a program was designed by the Ministry of Health in Jamaica to provide specialty training for pediatric nurses. In 2007, an overseas observational component was added so that these nurses could learn best practices from US pediatric nurses. Le Bonheur Children's and St. Jude were approached about providing this component.
